In the second
qualifying session went off at 11:00 a.m. Sunday. To open it
up Jim Adolph carded an abbreviated 6.546 at 182.00 to end his
day.
Lee Paul
Jennings Jr carded a 6.104 at 239.74 which left him in the long
DNQ list.
Claude LaVoie
ripped off a strong 5.940 at 223.76 on only the 4th pass on a
brand new car which is uniquely powered by a 392 hemi. He and
Jack Harris are the only cars using the early model engine set-up.
Bob Godfrey's
6.208 at 215.41 wasn't even close.
On this pair
John Hale made a hard launch and had good half-track numbers,
but didn't have the muscle to carry it all the way to the line,
slowing on the top end. Ed Dougan launched, shook, and pedaled
for a 9.308 at 90.75.
Todd
Lesenko's 6.126 at 234.61 fell over a tenth short.
Dwayne
Patton's first and only run netted him a 6.285 at 227.56.
Steve
Romanazzi was off his pace only managing a best of 6.461 at 191.77.
Nathan
Sitko shut off after the burnout. Back to Canada for the Tachman
bunch.
Jerry Kumre Jr.
way off at 7.029 at 219.61. Jack Wright ran 6.154 at 227.96 which
was OK but not nearly enough.
Dale
Pulde did not improve nor make the show with a 15.832 at 60.18.
4.02
at 310
Jeff
Bennett Runs 6.173 at 225.22 which was not even close to the
bump.
Gary
Densham stepped up with a 6.066 at 229.29 but that would fall
short.
Jeff
Utterback ran a nice 6.016 at 238.47which was close but no cigar.
Josh Crawford
ripped off a 5.994 at 239.74 which put him in the quick eight.
Craig Michael's 6.130 at 228.94 sent him packing.
Cruz Pedregon
jumped into the #6 spot with a stout 5.964 at 247.72. John Powers
carded a nice 6.056 at 243.24 but that also missed the 5.99 bump.

Dennis La Charite
was also unable to break in with a best of 6.213 at 242.26.

Mike Savage really
moved up with a nice 5.947 at 239.10 while Nate Bugg had all
kinds of problems.
Chris Krabill
improved his position with a great 5.872 at 242.52 while Mark
Sanders missed getting back in with a 6.058 at 237.09.
On his second
and last shot Austin racked up a 5.870, but it didn't count because
he clipped the 1,000-foot timing reflector.
In his final
attempt Bateman lost traction, pedaled, smoked 'em again. You
think these guys may be a tad off in the can? This is one of
the worst cases of tire shake ever seen on a NNFC.

Aaron 'Army'
Armstrong completed his licensing runs Friday night, so this
was his first qualifying attempt in the "Jungle Jim"
Camaro. He went "bowling for cones" at half track,
so the run does not count. It was an off-pace 6.96.

Fire the First Pair of Funny Cars
This one between
Cruz Pedregon and Kris Krabill was all Krabil, first off the
line and then pulled away to win by over two car lengths. His
5.907 at 243.24 sent Cruz off to Las Vegas.

In his first
race in a funny car Claude LaVoie's 5.945 at 239.61 was a very
good number but not good enough to better Mike Savage's 5.899
at 240.57.
Pair two in round
one was Garrett Bateman and Josh Crawford the results of which
were well chronacled on the first funny car page.
The other first
round shocker was Bucky Austin's car jumping up in the air smoking
the tires as soon as he hit the throttle. The Canadian based
ride of Tim Boychuk, tuned by Roland Leong this weekend, stormed
right down the lane for the 6.025 at 242.13 win.
The table turned
for Boychuk in round two when Krabell left first and never looked
back going to the final with a 5.921 at 243.90.

After winning
the wild round one race with Garrett Bateman, Crawford carded
a 5.888 at 240.83 win over Savage's game 5.936 at 241.41.
Crawford
moved on to the final as covered on the previous page.
