After
a month of going through thousands of photos I'm burnt out. This
page will be a hodgepodge of other cars, winners, people and
stuff that doesn't fit anywhere else. LOL
Kin Bates went
out in the semi finals of A/Fuel but by then he already had the
2009 Hot Rod Heritage championship in the bank.

Sean
Renteria ended his season as the 2009 Hot Rod Heritage Series
AA-Gas champ.
Bud Hammer was
runner up in Jr. Fuel but won the 2009 Hot Rod Heritage JF championship.

Bill Wayne was
the CHRR A-Fuel winner defeating Garry Wheeler in the final.

A new face in
the Jr. Fuel winners circle was Bob Lander who beat Bud Hammer
in the final. He also had low ET (7.078) and top speed (187.11
MPH).

The AA/G winner
was Howard Anderson who ran a 7.170 at 204.26 to defeat Rich
Roberts 8.787 at 101.82.

Chris Beanes
ran 7.676 at 0.076 to get the best of Rob Patten's 7.749 at 0.149
in the A-Gas final.

Bruce
McDowell had his break through win in Nostalgia Eliminator.
Will Martin ran
the table clinching the 2009 Hot Rod Heritage 7.0 Pro championship
and the CHRR.
Denny
Sanders won Super Stock.
Gwen
McWilliams with the Top Fuel trophy. If only the check was that
big.
In the A-Fuel
final Bill Wayne, Right lane, (0.031) 6.491 209.44 def. Garry
Wheeler Jr., (0.065) 6.466 213.16 on a hole shot.

Marc
McCormick went to the semis in Jr. Fuel.
Ron Hope
was on hand to do exhibition runs in his unpredictable Rat Trap
AA/FA.
Bill
Genco lost to Wheeler in round one of A-Fuel.

Cecil Matthews
provided some bottom end excitement on Saturday when a massive
fuel leak (see above) soaked the right rear tire and sent the
new T-Bird AA/GS car into an immediate right turn across the
track. The car was a bit banged up but Matthews was fine... no
so much his wallet.

Coupla

The CHRR
has a bit of everything.
Team
Gruzen
Gotta
have the Gruzen back-up girl....
Art Miller
debuted his restored Veney's Vega.
Ed Heystee supplied
another lengthily delay on Friday when he lost his NE altered
in his match up with Drew Mraz. The car was badly hurt as was
his wallet and pride.

On Saturday night
the fans were treated to the Rat Trap and Mike Boyd in the Winged
Express.

I'll wrap this
up with some people and pit shots like this one of Cruz Pedregon
on Media Day. Many found Cruz to be "not a bad guy"
when you get him away from the pressures of the Big Show. He
even initiated a Q&A session about front engine fuelers in
general and the BankAmericar in particular. Bob Danly, Don and
John Ewald found him truly interested.
The Media Day
hosts were Tony Thacker, Executive Director of the NHRA Motorsports
Museum and Monique Valadez, Manager of Education and Public Relations.
Graciela Sanchez,
NHRA Licensing and Field Marketing got the lone fire-up for the
press in the BankAmericar.
More Media Day,
plus the Honorees at the Double Tree, Cacklefest and many more
people shots will be presented on Cacklefest.com on the near
future.
The 2009 CHRR
Grand Marshall was Jess Tyree and he not only presided but raced
as well. Not bad for an old guy.
The hard working
museum staff had their hands full on Friday handing out the goodie
bags and selling T-shirts.

Did we
say hard working?

WDIFL.com
photog Bob Brown was everywhere.
From beginning
to end The Snake was all over the CHRR. For those of us who have
known him for decades agree its been a long time since he was
this amiable and in fact, having fun!
He was there
with his restored 1970 Mattel open hauler and funny car (which
was live). Above he posed with the 2009 NHRA Funny Car champ
Robert Height, Mike English and Bob Frey.
One of the Vipe
photo opp was the Vipe taking photos. On Friday John Ewald put
photographer Rick Shutz into his Mastercar for a fire-up and
on his way to the car Rick handed Don his camera and told him
to take his picture. Steve Reyes and Dave Kommel were also on
hand.
Don was clearly
perplexed with this big black thing in his hands. But to his
credit, after a crash course from John Ewald and Kommel he did
take some shots. No report on how they came out. More on the
CHRR adventures of the Vipe coming on Cacklefest.com.
Bucky
Austin with Prudhomme. A pair for sure.
Steve Pleuger
and Jack Harris - owners of the 2009 Champion Funny Car and Top
Fuel cars respectively.

Legendary chassis
builder Kent Fuller was just one of the hundred of legends who
signed the Project 1320 - Pioneers of the Quarter Mile banner.
Texas
chassis builder Boogie Scott signed next.
Speaking of autographs,
this digger nose has been going from coast to coast for two years.

In the day these
two terrorize the humor and senses of drag racing from coast
to coast.... John "Tarzan" Austin and T.C. Lemon. Both
can still keep you rolling on the floor.
Top Fuel
winner Rick McGee.
Darrell
Tedford and Crazy Larry - CHRR Top Fuel champs.
Museum
Facilities Mgr. Wayne Phillips does it all.
On Sunday all
the old time shooters on hand posed for this shot. Among them
are Don Gillespie, Tom West, Steve Reyes, John Ewald, Rick Shutz,
Dave Wallace Jr. and Tim Marshall. Without these guys and other
like them our history would be very vague.

On Saturday some
of the attending members of the Standard 1320 Group gathered
for their annual photo which gets bigger ever year.

Prudhomme, very
proud of his rig, gave NHRA announcer Bob Frey the grand tour.

The original
window sticker for the truck and the custom upgrade was less
than $6,000.00. What a difference 39 years makes.

The legendary
Art Chrisman.
This is how the
Rodeck Top Fuel team handled a car that was blocking their pit.
It was pretty funny till they figured out how to actually move
it more than a foot.

A classic shot
of Tim Beebe adjusting the valves on Dave West's Beebe &
Mulligan cacklecar.

On Sunday Prudhomme
was pre-booked to do a live ESPN interview. It was scheduled
for 8 p.m. EST.

As Garlits held
court, The Snake did his light and sound checks.

By 5 p.m. PST
the race was suppose to be over and the pits quiet... wrong.
Being some 2 hours behind the announcers were still yakking away
and cars were going down the track. It was a real exercise in
patience to get the 15 minute spot done.

And with
this I call it quits so I can get this animal out to the masses
this year.
Lots
more pits n' people shots coming soon on Cacklefest.com
