![]() ![]() Starting over 90 minutes late, the second TF session got underway at 11:38 a.m. The first pair out was Adam Sorokin and Rick Rogers. ![]() After a long thrash to recover from Fridays Big Boom, Rogers was too soft on the tune-up and labored to a 6.608 at 229.59. Not nearly enough to get into the 16 car field. ![]() Sorokin left good but lacked the total package with a 6.210 at 237.59. That would put him in the show at the time but would not hold. ![]() ![]() ![]() Next out was Butch Blair and Denver Schutz. ![]() ![]() With an aborted first run Blair was on the outside looking in. His soft 6.547 at 216.29 would leave him there. However, by Sunday afternoon he was more than happy he didn't qualify as Haight's car got his full attention to a win. ![]() In the other lane Schutz improves greatly and is in the show with a 6.045 at 244.03. ![]() ![]() ![]() Another pair of outsiders coming into session two was Terry Cox and Pete Kaiser. ![]() Kaiser improved with a 6.216 at 239.61 and would be in the show until later in the session when he got bumped. ![]() Cox takes advantage of his one shot and qualifies with a 6.10 at 238.09. ![]() ![]() ![]() Next pair featured Jim Murphy and rookie Rick Williamson. ![]() ![]() Murphy improves over his Friday time and goes to #2 with a 5.912 at 243.17. The bad news was he disappeared behind a wall of smoke burning 3 pistons... a problem he'd have all weekend. ![]() Williamson makes it down the track without incident but his 6.355 at 218.87 would not make the dance. ![]() ![]() ![]() Fire the next pair - Brett Harris and Lee Jennings Sr. ![]() ![]() Harris was down to his last shot and took advantage of it. Big Red clicked off an impressive 1.08 60 foot number but appeared to be pretty well done by 1100 feet mark netting a 6.042 at just 212.01. ![]() Jennings didn't have quite as impressive bottom end numbers but hauled on the other end to a solid 5.990 at 248.68. ![]() ![]() ![]() Bill Dunlap and Scott Mason were next out. ![]() ![]() Dunlap was solidly in with a prior 5.914 and like a bracket racer he rips off an almost identical 5.912 at just 218.92. ![]() Mason improves and breaks into the field with a piston eating 6.170 at 239.04. ![]() ![]() ![]() Bob Hallock and Dan Rusk were next out, neither in the show at the time. ![]() ![]() Hallock left hard and never laid down getting in with a solid 6.009 at 225.67. ![]() Rusk and his trusty old 354 couldn't cut it but did manage a 6.845 at 203.94 which, all things considered, isn't too bad for a 40 year old engine. ![]() ![]() ![]() Next up was Sean Bellemeur and Rick McGee. This would be the first of three meetings between these two over the weekend. At this point Bellemeur was bumped out but McGee was solidly in. ![]() ![]() Bellemeur motors the Plaza Hotel & Casino car back into the show with a 6.080 at .239.61 ![]() McGee improves with a nice 5.940 at 222.11. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Due to the rule that all cars must alternate lanes during qualifying the final three cars in session two made singles. First out was Mendy Fry. ![]() Fry was another driver on the outside until this pass when her piston eating 6.148 at just 198.93 would get her in. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Jeff Diehl and the RB Entertainment car is not usually in the box before round one but that was the case here. ![]() Diehl left good but blew the tires off early. All the pedaling in the world wouldn't have made the 6.17 bump. ![]() ![]() ![]() Try as he did, Mark Malde fell short with a last ditch 6.593 at 199.82. ![]() ![]() ![]()
![]() Dan Horan Jr qualified #1 in his '66 Mustang with a 6.299 at 231.36. ![]() Mike Adams put his sharp looking '79 Vette in the # 2 spot with a 6.393 at 217.39. ![]() Mike Savage qualified his '78 Dodge # 3 carding a 6.516 @ 219.08. ![]() Larry Pettit was # 4 in his beautiful "Crazy Horse" 'Mustang with a 6.616 @ 224.04. ![]() Jeff Utterback nailed down the # 5 hole with a 6.691 @ 218.71. One couldn't help but notice he is no longer "Mr. Pammy" but "Killah". Huge swing in nicknames, ya think? ![]() Steve Nichols came all the way from the Right Coast to run his Mill Road Boys '70 Camaro. His 6.736 at 217.60 landed him # 6. ![]() The 2004 VRA FC Champion, Randy Walls grabbed the # 7 slot with an off-pace 6.920 at 202.74. ![]() It only took a 7.072 at 214.23 to put Ed Schwartz in the final spot. ![]() Nate Bugg had new car blues big time and could not make the show. ![]() Bob Godfrey had more than his share of problems as well and was in the box come Sunday. ![]() Prior to the first round of Top Fuel, Mike Sullivan thrilled the crowd with his AA/FA. ![]() The Meadors Speed Sport Roadster was also sounding good but refused to go straight scattering the photogs with its wall to wall, tire smoking antics. ![]() ![]() But as always, the crowd went nuts when Mike Boyd made a lap in "The Wing". ![]() Fitted with a Donovan for the 2005 campaign, the car is now lighter in front and is liking wheelie a lot. The front axle was damaged so badly in testing a new one had to be made and fitted by Alex Mikkelsen at American Roadster. Good thing Alex made it strong - this pass had the front wheels up 80% of the time! ![]() ![]() ![]()
