Division 5 NHRA Top Fuel Drivers Numbers 1966 - 1979

This is another WDIFL feature series. Eventually we would like to have the names and numbers of everyone - in every division - who drove fuel dragsters between the year NHRA started issuing licenses (1966) and 1979. Some drivers had more than one number and some had (at different times) the same number. Some drivers had numbers in more than one division. This list was composed by Fred Young and he has our thanks for his extensive research.

Any additions or corrections are welcome. Send to NHRA TF Numbers

Before NHRA established its division based number license program the AA/FD, Funny Car and Exhibition drivers were required to have an FIA license. All of us who had an FIA license were godfathered into the NHRA format in 1967. However, if you wanted to run an NHRA national event you also had to maintain your FIA license.

To show what they looked like, this is the inside of my last license which I regrettably let expire in 1986.
