The Other Winners & Random Photos

Fourteen Nostalgia Funny Cars were invited to put on an 8 car Chicago style match race on Sunday. Each car got one qualifying pass Sunday morning and the quick 8 came back to race in round one. The two quickest cars from that round met in the final and those were Chris Krabill in Gary Turner's "Pedaler" and Lee Jennings Jr. in "Code Red".

Both drivers left together and stayed that way for 1320 feet. This was a dandy with Krabill getting the win light with a stout 5.982 at 234.98. Jennings was right there with a 6.042 at 234.98.

Krabell could be heard yelling for joy from the time he pulled off the track until he got out of the car.

Crew Chief, Donny Couch, Chris Krabell and owner, Gary Turner.

The whole team.

The A/Fuel Final was a family affair. Kin Bates and Claude Lavoie are brothers-in-law and both run injected nitro dragsters. Bates has a Gene/Dean Adams hemi in the frame rails and Lavoie's car is all John Russell horsepower.

Lavoie left first by a bunch, but Bates had the better times from 60 feet on through to the finish getting the win light with a 6.299 at 218.97. Lavoie was right there with a 6.393 at 219.61 Lavoies gate job made it much closer than the times would suggest. Bates' MOV: 0.0320 seconds (approximately 10 feet).

The Winners Circle was a family affair as well.

The AA/Gas Supercharged final pitted Ed Moss and Mike Leonard. This was pretty well over at the hit when Moss put a full tenth hole shot on Leonard and drove away to a 6.710 at 209.35 to a losing 6.929 at 200.04.

The Jr. Fuel 'A' final matched the number 1 and number 2 qualifiers Scott Parks and Jon Haire. Great race with Parks getting a slight lead off the line and Haire chasing him. Parks never looked back and took yet another win with a fine 6.918 at 191.93. Haire was in the hunt with a 6.935 at 191.61.

The Parks family is getting real used to posing in Winner Circles.

John Rasmussen took another win in Jr. Fuel 'B' topping Fred Notkza in the final. This was a dandy with both drivers catching great reaction times and stayed welded together all the way to the lights. Rasmussen's 7.206 at 185.37 just beat Notkza's 7.216 at 186.52.

In A/Gas Rob Patten met Brad Chafee for the money. Patten got the jump and held it to a 7.750 at 159.80 over Chafee's quicker 7.746 at 172.84.

Dan Schrokosch and Rich Raymond waded through the super tough 32 car Nostalgia Eliminator field to meet in the final. Raymond, who won the 2005 CHRR, got the lead at the green but Schrokosch stopped the repeat by running closer to the index. Dan MOV: 0.0270 seconds (approximately 7 feet).

Out 'N About

Dave Rosenberg in Bruce Dyda's NE 1 car had a rare DNQ.

Randy Bradford and Ron Hope made exhibition runs in their AA/FA over the weekend and the crowed loved them.

Chuck Bayuk made the NE show but lost in round one.

Not sure who this is (looks like Tony Waters car) but he sure likes collecting cones.

Brian Darcy made his third coast to coast trip this year to go two rounds in Jr. Fuel . Darcy ran a career best 6.995 at 190.71.

Bill Genco went a couple of rounds in A/Fuel.

Lee Jennings Jr. does his burnout for the final (above) and looks good going into the lights (below).

A/Fuel runner-up Claude Lavoie.

Marc McCormick prepares for his semi-final run in Jr. Fuel B against John Rasmussen, the eventual class winner. Marc posted a 7.54 with a speed of 175 in this matchup.

Dale Pulde had a busy weekend making sure the racers had his Pro Nitro fuel and helping on the Hawaiian funny car.

Troy Green, Gary Beck and Henry Walther check out the track prior to the second qualifying session.

All around nice guy Randy Walls gave the FC show a shot but fell short of making the field.

As many remember, Brendan Murry nearly owned Nostalgia Eliminator in the 90's so this car should look familiar. Parked in his shop for over six years, Murry dusted off the old girl and did a test run on Sunday with the newest version of the Arias hemi-Chevy between the frame rails.

Results were inconclusive.

For everything that was going on in front of the grandstands there was just as much going on in the pits.

"Digger Row"

Normally Dennis La Charite and the "Back In Black" Funny Car are in the hunt and setting top speed. Evidently they need more than one pass to dial it in - DNQ here.

Although it didn't actually race, this was the debut of the beautiful Pisano & Matsubara Vega Nostalgia Funny Car. This is not a restoration - this is a race car. Very cool.

The "Predator" (Satellite with Dale Smith Body) flopper owned by Mark Roy and driven by Jim Holtz was the # 3 qualifier but failed to run the numbers to make the final.

The hard running Speed Sport flopper owned by Mark Roy and driven by Mike Savage qualified # 4 but also didn't make the final.

The Howard Cams Rattler got another test push start on Sunday.

Ron Hope in the "Rat Trap" and Randy Bradford went at it for the last time Sunday. Bradford won two out of the three meetings.

The ageless Art Chrisman helping out his nephew, Mike Chrisman in Jr. Fuel 'A'.

There was no shortage of iron for door car lovers.

Paul Sadler accepts one of several photo awards given out Sunday morning from Dave Wallace.

Talk about a wolf in sheeps clothing - Hungerford's NE1 Little Old Lady.

Adam Sorokin hard at work. All he does is pack his chutes... must be prepping himself for a Big Show ride. <grin>

Its a bird - its a plane - its a 1967 Top Fuel car!

I did mention there were some killer door cars?

"The King" & "Tarzan" - if you don't know, oh well.

Red Greth and the Speed Sport camp is impossible to miss.

The Dragmaster "Two Thing" spent the weekend residing in the main lobby of the Double Tree Hotel. No Famoso dust 'n dirt on this baby.

Sonny & Jamie Jackson have been capturing drag racing on film and video for 50 years. Now you can put a face to their work. On second thought, just by their videos.

A pair of Jacks. Jack Harris in Flathead Jack's twin, 180 MPH, flathead digger.

Bitchin' hot rod!

Sean Bellemeur prior to finally racing Adam Sorokin and winning the rained out NHRR from June in Kentucky.

There was something for everybody.

Bad Manners Fiat altered.

Bruce McDowell NE-1

Jess Sturgeon NE-1

The Blairs Speed Shop Fiat has been a nostalgia staple for many years.

Local racer Randy Winkle runs his car his own way in the NE class. Forget the wins, forget the ET's... he loves to put on a show the way it was in the old days. He'll find an agreeable competitor, they'll roll through the water box and at the hit, they both smoke the tires the entire 1320. A little slippin' and slidin' to be sure, but it's true nostalgia! Don't tell the law, but its rumored that Randy was seen driving this car out of the Famoso parking lot and onto the highway last year to be home in time for dinner!

And on that note - that's it for now.
