2nd
Qualifying Session
Friday, 5:08
p.m. Weather conditions: air temperature 61 degrees, relative
humidity 44 percent, barometer 28.90 inches, adjusted altitude
1,502 feet, track temperature 83 degrees. With the drop in temperature
the track was getting suspect. Several cars passed.
The first car
out was that of Dan Horan with Jr. in the seat. They missed the
first session due to problems and didn't do much better here.
Horan had problems while backing up and shut off.

The next
pair was Brad Thompson and Roger Lechtenberg.

Two aborted runs.
Thompson's car is a little lazy off the line and then he has
to whack the throttle before mid-track. The engine went silent
after that. Lechtenberg got a little further before he had engine
issues and slows too.
The next
pair featured Jim Murphy and Tony Bartone.
Pushing the now
cool new cement track a little too hard, Murphy spun the tires
before the 60 foot lights and clicked it. Bartone shut off early
as well.
Next to last
pair pitted the current #1 and #2 qualifiers, Rick White and
Brett Harris and would be a pre-view of the final.

Both cars had
good early numbers. Neal really gets after the clutch in this
baby.
Dueling shutoffs.
Both click it early, as there is a cloud of clutch dust from
each car.
The last
pair of the session was Terry Cox and Mike McClennan.
Cox was shut
off before staging and McClennan made a 6.319 at 172.96 900'
pass.
The last car
of this non productive session was Larry Gotelli who ran a
7.577 at 110.59
that did not improve his #13 position.
Gotelli
shut off way early and did not improve.
3rd
Qualifying Session
12:08 p.m. Weather
conditions: air temperature 61 degrees, relative humidity 44
percent, barometer 28.90 inches, adjusted altitude 1,502 feet,
track temperature 83 degrees.... very nice racing conditions.

First pair out
were Brendan Murry who, after two sessions, was not in the show
and Terry Cox who's ride has been floundering in the performance
department.
Both
cars were lazy at the hit and that was reflected in the early
numbers.

Both cars made
abbreviated runs and at this point both were glad there was only
15 cars. Cox did not improve and Murry's legal 8.159 at 109.72
was enough to get him in the show.

The next pair
were two other cars that were struggling... Larry Gotelli Jr.
in the CSS "Batmobile" and Brad Thompson in the HSMS
"Great White".
Neither
car had great bottom end numbers.
Gotelli shut
off early but moved up with 6.174 at 181.28 while Thompson banged
a blower at 1000' and dropped to #13.
The first two
pair didn't give Murphy and McClennan any read on the track so
all they could do is throw all they could at it.
Murphy
once again left hard gathering nice numbers at each increment.
McLennan needed
to improve by 0.014 to get into the top half of the field left
with a bunch of clutch dust and clicked it way early.
Good numbers
down the track for Murphy to run close to yesterday's best with
a 5.746 at 254.23 which kept him #3.
Murphy's incremental
times: 60ft-1.024 sec., 330ft-2.608, 660ft-3.833/203.37 mph,
1,000ft-4.867. He was feeling real good about his chances to
finally win his 5th March Meet.
Pair
four pitted heavy hitters Denver Schutz and Tony Bartone.
Nice side by
side passes, with Schutz taking the initial lead. They stay close
until after the 330' mark when Bartone pulled steadily ahead.
Schutz was done before the 1000 foot lights.
With a very nice
5.746 at 235.06 Bartone went around Schutz on the ladder into
the new #4 spot. Schutz, with some engine damage, carded a shut
off 5.940 at just 215.93.
The next
pair to attack the track were Brett Harris and Rick McGee.
Both cars left
hard with Harris grabbing a slight lead and lead McGee all the
way to the finish line.

Two good clean
passes and Harris was just a tad slower than his previous ETs.
His 5.763 at 253.99 would keep him #2.
McGee improved
his ET with big MPH (for this car), 5.797 at 251.77, stayed #6.
The final
car trying to improve was Adam Sorokin.
White was ready
to go if someone knocked him off the #1 spot but they didn't
so they headed back to the pits all ready for Round One.
