FUEL SEMIS
Over the last two seasons Mendy
has raced Adam Sorokin more than any other driver, and here they
went again.
Sorokin knew
he was in a deep hole and had to rely on his strongest suit,
his reaction times. This time it bit him as he went red sending
Mendy to the final, again.
Mendy dodged
a bullet as she experienced tire shake and had to click it to
a 6.54 at just 149. Lane choice in the final would go to Williamson
putting High Speed in a position they hadn't seen in two years.
Under the lights E2 started
out with Bret Williamson and Phil
Ruskowski.
Williamson left Ruskowski
dead at the line.
Bret Williamson moved on to the
final against Mendy with a 6.36-second 158 MPH candles-lit run
in the Forever Young car against Phil Ruskowski and his Xibitionist
small block Chevy.
FUNNY
CAR SEMIS
The floppers opened with
Dan Horan Jr. and Bobby Cottrell.
In what was the hole shot of
the meet, Cottrell welded Horan on the tree (.029 to a dead asleep
.194) which, at this level, was the kiss of death.
The hole shot win went to Cottrell
with a 5.787 at 248.48 to a quicker and faster 5.716 at 258.17.
Both were low ET and top speed of the meet.
Who would meet Cottrell
in the final? Jeff Arend or Ryan Hodgson.
Arend got the jump. We
had a drag race.
FUNNY
CAR FINAL
At midnight the nitro
finals were finally called to the staging lanes,
#1 Jeff Arend and #3
Bobby Cottrell dueled for the dollars.
Cottrell nailed the tree
and never looked back.
On a huge hole shot Cottrell
took the win with a 5.81 at 252.95 over a much quicker 5.76 at
250.27.
The B&B Show once again share
the winners circle in a Heritage points race. Bobby Cottrell
and Bucky Austin looking for a back to back championship.

FUEL FINAL
Again, this is very hard for
me but it is what it is. This would be Tom Shelar's last warm
up of his championship dragster. No one could fathom that just
four days later he would be gone.
Down the road Mike Fuller
and his team were getting his "Forever Young" ready
to do battle.
As is HSMS tradition, Tom led
a team pep talk prior to heading out for the final. The Spokane
team consisted of Jake Dungan, Rick Shelar, Don Anderson, Alanna
Kuhn, Walt Stevens, Eric Mc Morrow, Kyle Wakefield, Nick San
Angelo and Mario Campos.
Long day coming to an
end it was to the lanes for the final.
Facing Mendy in the final race
of the night was Bret Williamson who had not been in a final
in memory. A win here would have been a huge feather in Mike
Fuller's cap.
This was all Mendy -
with a twist.
The twist was Fry didn't have
lane choice and was put in the unfavored right lane and drifted
to the left at half track.
Fry did a masterful job
of staying in her lane, literally feet off the center line for
the win.

Now and forever
This team is no stranger to the
Winners Circle and their signature celebration is a bottle of
Crown Royal passed among them. Tom took the first swig.
*At the insistence of Tom's brother Rick and son
Patrick the show will go on. As Tom would want it the team will
rally together and be at Osage Casino Tulsa Raceway Park for
their Nitro Nationals on September 20-21. They will finish out
the season at the CHRR in October. Their tribute to Tom is to
duplicate last years results.
